How would you feel if you started a new job and you were asked to take a leading role in a £18M sports hub project? Simon was presented with this opportunity and was more than prepared to take on the challenge.
Simon had previously worked in the private sector and was impressed with the ambition of Elmbridge when he was researching for his interview. He had never considered that a local authority would take on a project of the size and scale of the Elmbridge Xcel Sports Hub and he was excited by the prospect of working on his largest project to date.
As a surveyor he had worked on educational and commercial projects but at Elmbridge he had the opportunity to upscale his experience and manage the remediation and construction of a state-of-the-art sports hub comprising of an eight-lane running track and three football pitches which would be the new home of four of Elmbridge’s sports clubs. However, this was not Simon’s only project at the time – he still had responsibility for the delivery of the organisation’s other capital projects.
It’s the variety of his job that drives Simon - every day is different, and he regularly needs his project management, communication and problem-solving skills to manage the programme of work connected to the organisation’s property portfolio.
