Andy, Robert and Wayne are Elmbridge Environmental Enforcement. They are the unsung heroes of Elmbridge. When there is a fly-tip, when there are unauthorised encampments or moorings, when there is low level anti-social behaviour – we contact Andy, Robert and Wayne! They travel the borough either by electric car or e-bike and gather the information, the photos and the statements needed for Elmbridge and our partners to take action.
Andy relays a typical day for the Environmental Enforcement Team: "We gather a list of activity or locations to be monitored. There may be specific areas of anti-social behaviour or general uniformed patrols that we undertake including evenings and weekends. We are the eyes and ears of the council and multi-agency partners and are always looking to prevent, detect, target or disrupt any illegal waste activity. We also target fly-posting, fly-tipping, littering, abandoned vehicles, dog fouling, graffiti and make checks on the general cleanliness of our open spaces and streets across the borough."
Wayne tells us that he enjoys being out and about around the borough, whereas Robert likes that no two days are the same. However, they do agree that their community safety training on what to look out for and how to record evidence, is invaluable for their work.
