Jamie Pourier-Benham is our Climate Change Programme Lead at Elmbridge Borough Council, working in the Policy & Performance team. She has been at Elmbridge for nearly five years, and she started with us in the Planning Policy & Strategy team. However, last year she was drawn to a new challenge, and was able to use her transferable skills to excel in a new position that focused on helping to create a more sustainable Elmbridge for our future. As a result, Jamie was able to further develop her professional career with great support from her management team.
With previous experience in the charity sector, Jamie decided to join us at Elmbridge as she wished to make a change in her career but still be able to help to support communities. Although she loved working in the Planning Policy & Strategy team, she was reflecting on the next steps in her career, and when a new role appeared within the organisation that offered the opportunities to broaden her knowledge and help to protect the environment, she was intrigued!
Jamie explains that she felt happy and supported by her managers when deciding to make this move and appreciated that her input into the organisation as a whole felt extremely valued.
Today, Jamie enjoys the variety of her role – her favourite part has been how she is able to work with so many colleagues in different areas and support them to ingrain carbon reduction into their work. Her other duties include planning and implementing internal and external engagement strategies for the community with her team and working on the many projects that will help towards meeting our target of being a carbon neutral organisation by 2030.
Jamie really enjoys working at Elmbridge and praises her warm and supportive team and colleagues. Her words to live by are “be nice or go home” – we would agree Jamie!
