After experiencing a wide range of roles, having worked at a bank, a university, and as a phlebotomist (and of course, being a roadie for a year with her husband), Caroline finally came to work at Elmbridge, where she has stayed for the last seven years.
Although she wasn’t specifically looking to work within local government, Caroline had an “instant feel” that it was a great place to work as soon as she came in for her interview. After initially working in the print room, Caroline became a crucial part of the ICT team making sure everyone else could do their jobs.
Whenever someone’s computer isn’t working, or people have forgotten their passwords, (which happens a lot after a long holiday), Caroline is there to help. This is exactly why she loves her job – the rewarding feeling she has helping people.
Her work involves all the teams across the council - she is always learning.
To anyone else looking to work in the same field, she would recommend working in the office rather than remotely, as it allows you to interact with a wider variety of people, which she describes as being “confidence boosting”.
The three main qualities Caroline thinks are crucial in her role are, “patience, good customer service and organisation”, as she has to calmly deal with whatever is thrown her way to ensure that everyone can use their computers and get their work done.
Caroline really enjoys working at Elmbridge. If she could give any advice, it would be to “grab any opportunity, just take the chance!”
