You can pay business rates by direct debit, debit card payment, telephone or internet/telephone banking.
Direct Debit
Most payments for business rates are paid by Direct Debit. Paying this way makes sure that you always pay the correct amount at the right time without the need to remember when payments are due.
Business rate Direct Debits are taken on the first of the month.

If your Direct Debit payment is from an account that needs more than 1 signatory, please download the Direct Debit form and return it to us by post. Once we have received this, we will set up your direct debit within 5 working days.

Credit card payments
From 13 January 2018 new rules came into effect banning companies from charging any fees on card payments; this also applies to local authorities and other government agencies such as HMRC. As a result, the council would have to pay for the cost of credit cards so from this date we no longer accept credit cards for the payment of Council Tax and business rates.
Direct Debit guarantee
The following wording replaces the direct debit guarantee on the Direct Debit form:
This guarantee is offered by all banks and building societies that accept instructions to pay Direct Debits.
If there are any changes to the amount, date or frequency of your Direct Debit, we will notify you ten working days in advance of your account being debited or as otherwise agreed. If you request us to collect a payment, confirmation of the amount and date will be given to you at the time of the request.
If an error is made in the payment of your Direct Debit by Elmbridge Borough Council or your bank or building society you are entitled to a full and immediate refund of the amount paid from your bank or building society.
If you receive a refund that you are not entitled to, you must pay it back when Elmbridge Borough Council asks you to.
You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by simply contacting your bank or building society. Written confirmation may be required. Please also notify us.
