Our stroke support groups are for anyone recovering from, or caring for someone who has had, a stroke. They are a place where you can meet others who understand your experiences, and take part in a range of activities, outings and events.
Times and locations
The stroke group runs weekly on Mondays from 10am to 1:30pm at Walton Centre for the Community.
Activities
The group holds a range of activities including:
- entertainment, such as quizzes and bingo
- guest speakers
- outings
- physiotherapy
- a three-course lunch at the Centre (cost £6)
One member of the group said:
"I was part of the first committee of the stroke group in 1987 as a volunteer. I then had a stroke myself, which left my right arm paralysed. The stroke group has been a wonderful part of my life ever since, with its outings, holidays and weekly meetings."
Physiotherapy
A physiotherapist is available solely for the stroke group, and will support you in using the Centre's gym equipment to improve your mobility.
Join the group
Attending the group requires a Centre Membership, which costs £20 per year and entitles you to access all events and activities at our Centres for the Community.
Please visit Walton-on-Thames Stroke Group for more information on memberships and how to join.
Transport
Our Community Transport Team has a fleet of accessible vehicles which can support you to get to a group meeting. Contact commtransport@elmbridge.gov.uk to discuss transport options available.
Other support
If you are looking for other ways to improve your mobility after a stroke, speak to your GP or physiotherapist about the Elmbridge exercise referral scheme, which runs weekly classes aimed at supporting recovery and rehabilitation for those will ill health or injury.
