The EIR gives you the right to access information recorded and held by public authorities. We maintain a database of official information about land where the potential for ground contamination may exist.
You can request information in relation to specific sites by making a request for information under the EIR. Before doing so, please do check our publication scheme and whether the information you are requesting has already been published:
Make an Environmental Information Regulations enquiry
Searches cost £65 per hour and an estimate of the cost to conduct a search will be provided, based on the information you request. The fee is not VAT chargeable. Please note that we can only begin work on your request upon receiving the payment in full. The standard response time is 20 working days from the date payment is received, but if your request is complex we may apply an extension of a further 20 days.
We may refuse a request if:
- we do not hold the information
- the information falls under one of the exceptions given in Part 3 of the EIR 2004. We will explain the exception that applies in our response to you
- the request is unreasonable on the grounds of costs or diversion of resources
- the request is vexatious or repeated
You have the right to request an internal review of your request and if you remain unsatisfied with the outcome, you can contact the Infomation Commissioner to ask for a further review.
