The Mayor of Elmbridge for 2021 to 2022, Councillor Tony Popham, was delighted to present a cheque for the grand sum of £34,485.16 to The Grace Dear Trust, the charity he had chosen to support during his Mayoral term of office.
The funds were raised with various events including a Ladies’ Luncheon, a Charity Ball, a golf day and a pre-rugby lunch at Esher Rugby Club. Councillor Judy Sarsby also organised a Row, Paddle, Run event in Weybridge raising just under £7,000 – thank you - and to many others who made donations contributed to the final total.
The funds raised will enable The Grace Dear Trust to expand their work with young people in schools across Elmbridge. They have already been contacted by several schools requesting the help of the charity which indicates the need for their expertise in mental health advice.
In presenting the cheque to the Trustees of The Grace Dear Trust, Cllr Tony Popham said: “I am delighted that I was able to contribute to this wonderful charity. I would like to thank everyone who has helped – their generosity has been overwhelming.”
Graham Dear, a Trustee of The Grace Dear Trust, “On behalf of all the people who benefit, I would like to thank the Mayor and Mayoress for their hard work in raising such an incredible amount of money for our charity in order for us to help young people to deal with their mental health. Our sincere gratitude to everybody who helped and supported the Mayor.”
