Local residents were recognised for their community service this month, at a Volunteer Awards Ceremony held at Claygate Centre for the Community.
Over 40 volunteers attended the event, just part of a team who have given over 800 years of time to support the Centre.
Among those attending the awards were Susan, who has been volunteering with the Centre since 2018, Pam and David, who have been delivering Meals on Wheels for over 15 years, and Sheila, who received her award for a whopping 40 years of volunteering for Claygate.
The Mayor of Elmbridge, Cllr Simon Waugh, presented the awards.
We couldn’t be more grateful for all the support the volunteers provide. The Centre would not be the success that it is without its amazing team of volunteers. They go the extra mile to bring a real sense of community to the Centre, making a difference to many people’s lives every day. On top of supporting the day-to-day activities of the Centre, the volunteers also run a social committee, The Friends of Claygate Centre, helping with all the Centre's fundraising to support activities and events.
Councillor Gill Coates, Portfolio Holder for Community Care, said:
"Elmbridge is very fortunate to have so many volunteers who help us deliver our community support services. They generously give up hours of their time and do so much for local residents. Volunteer support is invaluable and it is lovely to have a chance to show how much they are appreciated."
