Elmbridge and Runnymede’s Youth Hub enters its third year

The Elmbridge and Runnymede Youth Hub has been successful in securing £48,000 from the Department of Work and Pensions to continue its mission to help young people in the area find a new job, training or an apprenticeship. 

Since its launch in 2021, the hub has provided expert support and advice to over 300 young people; from help with CVs, placements, mentoring and much more to help young people take the next steps in their career.

The Youth Hub is a one stop shop with an expert team and pledges of support from over 100 businesses, charities and community groups allowing the hub to tailor advice and opportunities to each individual ambition. 

The latest client, Jake, who the Youth Hub helped to map out his next steps and build his CV said: “I was supported by the Youth Hub to match my ambitions to the right training to help me progress in my chosen career, as the team helped me to transfer of my course from Art to Media Studies. 

“The Youth Hub helped me to understand the opportunities and curriculum of the course as well as the level I should be studying at. However, the icing on the cake this year was seeing my work being exhibited at The Heart Shopping Centre in Walton and soon again in Addlestone."

Cllr Robin Stephens, Portfolio Holder for Planning, Economy and Local Enterprise at Elmbridge Borough Council said: “We are delighted to hear that the Youth Hub will continue its great work over the next 12 months. The Youth Hub experts are excellent at what they do, whether that is securing a young person’s first role or connecting them into an industry to build their experience.”

Cllr Tom Gracey, Leader of Runnymede Borough Council said: “The Youth Hub works so well in the area as its within easy reach for our young people with locations in Egham, Addlestone and Weybridge. We’ve seen first-hand the stories of young people in Runnymede who had a helping hand to connect into a company, apprenticeship or placement that has opened up a range of opportunities into a new job.”

Christine Ricketts, Principal of Brooklands College commented: “It’s great to see the Youth Hub’s work recognised with additional funding to support more young people across the area. It’s not just expert advice and support on offer for the young people, it’s the aspirational setting at the College, the links to employers, and the connections to apprenticeships providing the right option for help.”

Gemma Newar, Partnership Manager at Weybridge Job Centre said: “We are happy to support the Youth Hub with new funding. The partnership adds value to our youth offer locally with the College, Councils and businesses coming together with the Job Centre to deliver results to help young people back into work. We look forward to another successful 12 months."
