The first Crimestoppers Zone has been launched in Surrey around the St. John's Estate area, Walton on Thames. The project is part of Community engagement activities and Crimestoppers signage, social media messaging, a mail drop and a community event have taken place.
The Project is led by the Council but supported by all partner agencies: Surrey Police, the Housing Association and Crimestoppers. The project group are committed to the residents at St John’s to make a difference to their area and so, will be working together over the next 12 months. The sole aim is that the St John’s community will be empowered to report crime through Crimestoppers if they don’t wish to go to the Police for whatever reason, giving them the power to speak up, stop crime in the area and stay safe, whilst remaining 100% anonymous. Always. The only person who will know that you spoke up is you.
Councillor Bruce McDonald, Portfolio holder for Policy and transformation says, “We’re very proud to be the first in Surrey to introduce a Crimestoppers Zone. We hope this initiative will not only build confidence among communities about reporting crimes to police or the council but also highlight the anonymity of Crimestoppers.”
Borough Commander, Bert Dean says, “Very often people in areas where crimes are committed hold the key to what is happening, yet they are too scared to take action for fear of being traced. Crimestoppers gives them the chance to report information 100% anonymously without the fear of being identified in any way.”
You can help solve crimes and keep your streets safe by speaking up about what you know. Contact Crimestoppers and remain anonymous, go online to the Crimestoppers charity website or phone, 0800 555 111. They operate 24/7, 365 days a year.
