Listeners were able to tune in to BBC Radio Surrey on Sunday 18 February for an insightful segment titled “Sunday Reset.” The spotlight was on Elmbridge’s Wellbeing Walks and Cycle Rides, with Lily Satterthwaite (pictured left), a dedicated walk leader, interviewed.
The BBC reached out to Elmbridge, following research findings which found that women in the borough tend to live longer than in other areas. Lily Satterthwaite shared her perspective on this fantastic statistic, shedding light on possible contributing factors and offering insights into the community’s wellbeing initiatives.
As a volunteer walk leader, Lily is playing a pivotal role facilitating the walks and in particular working more recently with Faye Ballard (pictured right), our walks co-ordinator, to start a more inclusive walk for those rehabilitating back into walking and those with disabilities and long-term health conditions. Listeners heard first-hand about Lily’s personal experiences, the joys of volunteering, and the enriching benefits she derives from her involvement in these community activities.
They were also able to gain valuable insights into Elmbridge’s wellbeing culture and the positive impact of community engagement through Lily's interview with Kevin Duala who was standing in for Allison Ferns (2 hours 50 minutes in).
We are very grateful to Lily for agreeing to do this interview and to our walks and cycle leaders for their invaluable volunteering efforts.
