Following the successful river enforcement operation on 24 September, officers from the Environment Agency, Elmbridge Borough Council, Surrey County Council, and Surrey Police continued their enforcement actions along the River Thames at Cigarette Island and Hurst Park on Tuesday 8 October.
During the previous operation, three vessels were removed, and numerous enforcement notices were issued. Officers have returned to follow up on those notices, checking registrations, waste disposal, and other compliance measures.
Elmbridge Borough Council has also arranged for the removal of riverbank waste from unauthorised moorings.
Due to high and fast-flowing river conditions, this follow-up was conducted from land.
Councillor Mike Rollings, Leader, Elmbridge Borough Council, is determined to act against unauthorised moorings:
"Following the successful enforcement operation on 24 September and the follow-up on 8 October, residents can be assured of our commitment to ensuring only legal and safe moorings are permitted on the River Thames in Elmbridge.
“We will continue to collaborate with our partners at the Environment Agency, Surrey Police and Surrey County Council to take action against unauthorised moorings."
