During Plastic Free July, we have been backing the movement to refuse single-use plastic and encouraged residents to be part of the solution to plastic pollution.
Reducing plastic or encouraging more recycling is great however, we want to go one step further by introducing a single-use plastic policy to implement across our operations and in the community.
We have already placed sustainable procurement at the heart of our operations and going forward, we will be working with suppliers, contractors, residents, communities, schools and businesses for finding positive answers to reduce plastic use in Elmbridge.
Our aims and objectives for a plastic-free Elmbridge are outlined in our Single-Use Plastic Policy:
Cllr Ashley Tilling, Portfolio Holder for Climate Change, Environmental Services and Sustainability, said, “We know that most of our Elmbridge residents love being part of a green and sustainable environment. The launch of our Single-Use Plastic policy is another positive step towards raising awareness and tackling the adverse effects of single-use plastic on the environment. We are working towards a plastic free borough for the future and want to support residents, local businesses and community groups who share our vision.”
