Elmbridge highlights its dementia services during Dementia Awareness Week

It’s Dementia Awareness Week (13 to 19 May) and we are highlighting our Elmbridge Dementia Services - a centre of excellence for dementia care in the borough. We provide care and stimulation for those living with dementia, and respite for carers and family members.

This dedicated specialist service for people living with dementia provides engaging activities and social interaction to enhance wellbeing, encourage independence and retain life skills.

From each initial assessment we find out about the person’s life history, emotional and physical needs, mobility, interests and hobbies, worries or anxieties and important people in their lives. This allows us to tailor our social groups to meet individual needs with a range of activities and reminiscence sessions, but most importantly we provide a chance for members to meet new friends and socialise in a safe and relaxed environment. If members want to just soak up the atmosphere or read the paper while their carer has a break, they are welcome to do so.

We aim to provide specialist, compassionate support for anyone who needs it. We offer information, respite services and engaging activities for people living with dementia, all within a safe and welcoming environment.

We can offer people with dementia:

  • social clubs designed to engage and stimulate
  • social events
  • companionship and social interaction

We can offer carers and families:

  • advice and information to support looking after their loved ones
  • benefits advice
  • referral to other services
  • respite from their caring role
