Elmbridge is a great place to live and work in many ways but there are people in our community who may be facing inequality. This can affect how they access and receive our services, the support we provide and how included they feel.
We work hard to make sure that everyone has a voice, but we know that we are not always reaching all groups, and that some communities do not access our services as much as we would expect them to. We want to change that.
As a council we are committed to improving equality, diversity and inclusion in the borough and are currently developing a strategy for 2024 and need your help to get it right.
We want to break down barriers and ensure we are an accessible and a supportive council for all which celebrates our differences and makes everyone feel welcome.
While we have been preparing our strategy we have been consulting with a wide variety of organisations across the borough to help create the best plan possible, including charities which support refugees and struggling families, multi-faith groups and LGBTQ+ groups.
We now need to hear from residents. Our survey is live and we would really appreciate your views.
Councillor Bruce McDonald, Elmbridge Council Leader and Portfolio Holder for Transformation said:
“We all face different barriers to opportunity in life, and there are parts of our community who still face systemic discrimination and prejudice. As such we acknowledge the need to provide additional support to those who need it most.
“As a council we have a key enabling role to play in building a more equal borough, but we know we will not succeed if this is simply another council owned strategy. The aspirations outlined in our strategy will belong to the people of the borough, across all of our communities regardless of background or belief.”
The survey is available until 17 March.
