Have you been inspired by Wimbledon? With the tennis season in full flow, there has never been a better time to grab your racquet and head off to your local courts to enjoy a relaxed or competitive game with friends and family.
The four-year Elmbridge parks tennis refurbishment programme was completed last year, bringing residents state-of-art facilities with a fantastic all-weather surface to play on all year-long at 12 locations across the borough. The investment in partnership with the LTA guaranteed the courts’ viability for years to come while providing additional opportunities for children and adults to get active in local parks.
The parks tennis scheme has been a success over the last few years with a total of 4659 users registered to the scheme. Members have 7 days advance booking rights to secure their booking at any of the 12 park venues.
Our fantastic value tennis pass is £40 per year, making the sport accessible to a whole household for just over £3 per month. Up to 5 people can register on the same pass and play up to 2 hours per day on any court any time of the year with no extra fee for court booking.
Our pay and play pass is also available to those who do not want to commit to an annual pass. The booking fee is £5.50 per hour per court.
We remain committed to making tennis accessible for all and are offering a free tennis pass to families or individuals in receipt of benefits. We encourage you to email the parks tennis team to find out if you are eligible.
To help us develop tennis locally, we are working in partnership with local LTA accredited tennis providers who offer comprehensive year-round community tennis programmes for all ages and abilities. Most of them have planned tennis holiday camps for the summer as well as coaching adults and children all year long. Check their programmes out:
- Set Point Academy – Long Ditton
- Surrey Tennis Coaching – Weybridge
- Take Tennis Lessons - Hersham
Players also have the opportunity to join the Elmbridge Tennis League if they enjoy the social aspect of the game, want to improve their technique and meet like-minded people. Find out more about the tennis league.
Simon Waugh, Portfolio Holder of Leisure, Culture and Commercial Strategy, said “Now that the refurbishment programme is completed, the local parks tennis courts provide the perfect environment to play with friends and family and learn new skills, gain confidence and get involved in a healthy and fun sport. With 12 locations to choose from, there is no reason not to give tennis a go. We are pleased to make the parks tennis scheme accessible to everybody, so if you are in need of support with the cost of living, we encourage you to apply for your free pass”.
