Love Parks Week returns from 26 July to 4 August 2024. This is a chance to celebrate the fantastic range of open spaces we have locally in Elmbridge, including parks, recreation grounds, riverside sites, woodland, and meadows. They all play a vital role in boosting the health and wellbeing of residents and communities.
Whether spending time outdoors relaxing with friends and families, picnicking, visiting play areas, knocking a football around or walking the dog, our parks give our communities an invaluable space to enjoy, grow and socialise.
Love Parks Week is also about acknowledging the efforts of volunteers and workers across the borough who look after and maintain the 142 green spaces in Elmbridge. As well as contractors, we are grateful to have the support of dedicated local litter-picking groups:
- Cobham Heritage Litter Picks
- Hinchley Wood Litter Group
- KT6 Litter Pickers, Long Ditton
- Lower Green Litter Group
- Love Molesey Litter Pickers
- Walton Litter Pickers
- Weston Green Litter Picking Group
- Weybridge in Bloom
- Weybridge Litter Busters
They do an amazing job in keeping green spaces clean and welcoming for everybody. This is an opportunity to give them our grateful thanks for their commitment. Their hard work is appreciated by all in local communities.
Naturally, we can all do our bit to keep Elmbridge clean and tidy by being mindful of the environment and the facilities on offer in our green spaces. We can do even more by looking after each other when we are out and about. This means taking litter home when bins are full and respecting each other’s space.
We have also introduced a new Dog Walkers Charter this summer which follows a simple principle based on asking dog owners and walkers to always keep dogs under close control and cleaning up after them.
Councillor Simon Waugh, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Commercial Strategy, said, ‘People love spending time in their local parks, and it is fully understandable, given the great variety of open spaces and facilities available in Elmbridge. Love Parks Week is all about how we can protect and enjoy them. That’s why it is so important to recognise the wonderful work of our local litter-picking groups and green champions. We thank them for their support. Let’s support them in turn by respecting our spaces and each other when we are out and about’.
