As part of our on-going commitment to becoming a carbon neutral organisation by 2030, and a carbon neutral borough by 2050, we are embedding sustainability within our procurement processes.
While providing increased opportunities for small and medium businesses locally, we are aiming to meet the needs for goods, services, works and utilities in a way that achieves value for money for the council, communities, and the economy, while minimising damage to the environment.
We have introduced a new procurement policy that highlights ways in which suppliers can contribute to increased sustainability. Our key areas of focus will be on:
- reducing energy consumption and switching to low carbon energy.
- low or zero emission modes of transport
- sustainable Government Buying Standard for purchased goods and service delivery
- reducing water consumption and using water efficient equipment and services.
Councillor Ashley Tilling, Portfolio Holder for Climate Change, Environmental Services and Sustainability, said ‘Embedding sustainability within our procurement processes will play an essential role in delivering our pledge to become a carbon neutral organisation by 2030. We look forward to working closely with environmentally conscious suppliers and contractors who will contribute to a sustainable and thriving Elmbridge that will benefit our local communities’.
