18 September update: Cabinet approved this proposal. This will now go to October Council for final agreement.
We want to ensure that our residents, businesses and community partners feel well informed about local issues and that they have opportunities to get involved, to influence local decision making and to let us know what they think about our policies, procedures and service delivery.
For our services to be delivered effectively, particularly in times of reducing resources, it is important that they are shaped by the people who live in the borough. We need to understand the different views within the community, consider the barriers that might stop certain voices being heard and determine the most appropriate engagement techniques, allowing us to meet the needs of our communities more effectively.
At September’s Elmbridge Cabinet, Councillors will be presented with the Elmbridge Community Engagement Framework which seeks to enhance the level of face-to-face engage undertaken by Elmbridge Borough Council.
Community engagement is a powerful tool that can provide invaluable information and help to build confidence within the community. By undertaking meaningful engagement and encouraging community involvement we can work with the community to improve and sustain services that matter most in Elmbridge.
From farmers markets and community festivals, to drop-ins, youth panels and careers talks, our commitment is to undertake meaningful engagement which encourages collaboration with our community to improve and sustain the services that matter most in Elmbridge.
Cllr Mike Rollings, Leader, Elmbridge Borough Council
