We are delighted to announce that, as part of the water play strategy, work will begin in week commencing 14 October (weather depending) to install a new eco-friendly splash pad in Churchfields recreation ground in Weybridge, set to open in spring 2025. Unlike traditional water play areas, this will be a recirculating splash pad with solar panels, making it more efficient in terms of water and energy usage. The new facility will conveniently be located near the main entrance.
This innovative water play area is designed for both fun and sustainability. It includes various interactive features aimed at engaging young minds and promoting imaginative play. While offering unlimited fun, it will use resources responsibly, in line with our commitment to reducing water consumption and minimising our carbon footprint.
In October 2022, we reached out to residents, to gather their views on future water play facilities in the borough. 96% of participants expressed their support for water play options. Their feedback informed a new water play strategy taking their wishes into consideration while addressing the issues of environmental sustainability and financial prudence.

What will happen to the paddling pool in Churchfields recreation ground?
We are exploring exciting new play options to replace the current paddling pool area. These will cater for various interests and age groups and we look forward to sharing the plans with you in spring 2025.
Cllr Simon Waugh, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Commercial Strategy, said.
“The eco-friendly approach for the splash pad reflects our commitment to a more sustainable use of resources while still delivering fun for children and families alike. It forms part of our vision for a greener, more playful future. We hope children will enjoy visiting this new environmentally friendly facility for some summer fun.”
