Elmbridge Borough Council will provide a grant funding of £25,000 for the next 5 years to support the Day Service at Elmbridge Mencap at Burview Hall in Hersham.
Elmbridge Mencap, was first established over 50 years ago and the current Burview Hall was opened on 23rd September 2000, with a modern, multi-purpose facility which exclusively supports adults and children with learning disabilities, along with their carers. Elmbridge Mencap is a charity, run by a board of Trustees, who recognised the need for a day service within the Borough. The day service was launched in November 2022 and has grown exponentially over the last 15 months, providing a variety of activities such as gardening, cookery, arts and crafts, games, music and movement and life skills.
Elmbridge Mencap’s facilities at Burview Hall also include a sensory room for interactive relaxation, a stimulating outdoor sensory garden and a fun space to socialise. It runs three different social clubs as well as Cinema evening and a monthly meeting for families with disabled children.
Paula Walsh, Chair of Trustees Board at Elmbridge Mencap is thrilled with this funding from Elmbridge Borough Council:
“Our aim is to help enrich the lives of all people with learning disabilities in Elmbridge and we are delighted to receive this funding as it will allow us to support our clients by making their world a better place and encouraging them to be brave and try new things whether that is gardening, cookery or dance.”
Councillor Gill Coates, Portfolio Holder for Community Care is delighted to support such a fantastic organisation:
“Elmbridge Mencap provides such an inspirational offering to those with learning disabilities in the borough. In supporting the organisation and their clients with this funding, we are proudly championing inclusivity in Elmbridge and helping to enrich the lives of those in our community with learning disabilities.”
