Spring is a season of renewal and growth with flowers blooming and the sounds of chirping birds that lift our mood and remind us of the beauty of nature. We know that walking benefits our wellbeing but walking in spring is also a chance to discover the emerging beautiful wildlife that surrounds us. The experience is even more enjoyable when shared as a group.
This is exactly what our wellbeing walks programme offers: an opportunity to meet new people and build friendships while keeping active.
We want to make our walks accessible for all to enjoy and this spring, we are launching new walks:
New all-inclusive walk and wheel
A 1km route from Xcel Leisure Complex every Monday morning. This new route is suitable for people experiencing limited mobility, a long-term medical condition or disability, visual or hearing impairment, or problems affecting their mental health. We also welcome people with learning disabilities. This is a friendly, welcoming group where you will find support and encouragement to get more active. Check the route and programme.
Walk and talk
These new fortnightly Sunday walks through Claygate are led by volunteers Ryan and Lidia, who are inviting you for a stroll to share conversation or just enjoy the surroundings.
Princess Alice Hospice bereavement walk and talk programme
We added these walks to our programme at the beginning of this year. Participants have said that they had found them helpful to talk with others and share their experience of loss. Destinations include Bushy and Richmond Parks, Painshill and Claremont Gardens.
In addition to the above new walks, we are still running our usual walks:
Nature guided walks
An opportunity to discover the wildlife in our local woodland and countryside sites with a countryside ranger. They are excellent to find out a wealth of information about spring wildflowers, birds, and bats and how we manage our sites for biodiversity. Check what's on and where.
Historical walks
A chance to catch up with the local history of Molesey (led by an Elmbridge Museum volunteer) and Weybridge.
Weekly and monthly walks
From Claygate, Hersham, Molesey, Walton-on-Thames, around Esher common and on the Thames towpath, lasting from 45 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes (maximum) over easy terrain.
Claremont and Painshill
We have partnered with Painshill Parks for several years and more recently Claremont Gardens. Walks are free for our wellbeing walkers, but booking is essential.
The wellbeing walks are free to join and are run in partnership with the Ramblers. We hope you will join us soon. Our volunteer walk leaders look forward to meeting you.
