We are aware of the media and social media comments on the proposed event at D'Oyly Carte, Weybridge and have the below statement on the matter.
We received an application for a temporary event notice for the Summer Music Events scheduled from July 4-6 2025 at D'Oyly Carte, Weybridge.
However, we also received objections from both the Police and the council’s own Environmental Health Officer as the applicant had not provided sufficient information to identify the necessary measures to ensure public safety, for example, the limited access to and from the island, and the lack of adequate protection to prevent members of the public falling into the river.
Despite our offer to meet with the applicant to discuss and address these concerns, no meeting was accepted. Consequently, we had no choice but to refuse the temporary event licence and to proceed to a hearing. The hearing was held on Tuesday 7 January and the decision was reached to deny the application on safety grounds.
The applicant can either appeal this decision or they can work with the local Police and Elmbridge Borough Council to mitigate the safety concerns raised and then submit another application for a temporary event notice.
We remain committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the public and are open to further discussions to resolve these issues.
