Following the recent opening of the newly refurbished multi-use games area in Hersham recreation ground just before the Easter holiday, we are excited to announce that work is about to begin on replacing the outdated gym equipment in Long Ditton recreation ground. Originally installed with funding from the London Olympic and Paralympic Games 2012, this equipment is long overdue for an upgrade.
The gym area will be closed for 4 to 5 weeks while we install new, exciting calisthenics equipment. We have taken care in selecting equipment that will offer something for everyone and all fitness levels. The new equipment includes a variety of items designed to enhance outdoor workouts, such as:
- Fitness frames: great for pull-ups, dips and leg raises to focus on upper body strength.
- Kettle bells: to enhance core strength, stability and improve grip strength.
- Suspension trainers: ideal for resistance training and improving core strength.
- Sit-up benches: for core workouts.
Calisthenics exercises are essential for overall body function, strength, and mobility. Everyday movements, such as squatting and pushing up, are examples of calisthenics. This new versatile exercise space guarantees a comprehensive workout without the need for additional items. The design emphasises safety and personal space, with an uncluttered equipment layout and plenty of free space for warm-down exercises. Additionally, loop seating is provided for warming down, storing bags, and socialising.
Next on the list of refurbishment works at Long Ditton recreation ground is the basketball court. The new Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) will replicate the design at Hersham recreation ground, featuring a variety of equipment to accommodate multiple sports and activities. The planned equipment includes:
- Basketball hoops: for basketball games and practice.
- Five-a-side football goals: to facilitate small-sided football matches.
- Netball posts
- Tennis nets
- Markings for various sports: including football, basketball, netball, and tennis.
