We’re thrilled to announce that Churchfields play area is currently undergoing a transformation, bringing a fresh look to this very popular play space. The refurbishment works are expected to last 8 to 9 weeks, with a planned reopening in mid-November.
This extended timeframe reflects the scale and complexity of the works. Churchfields is a large play area and we’re taking this opportunity to deliver a truly improved experience for families and visitors. The redesign includes:
- a new sand play area
- welcoming picnic space
- new play equipment
- new surfacing for improved safety and durability
The removal and replacement of the sand pit is a complex process in itself, and the new surfacing requires time to cure properly to ensure it’s safe for long-term use.
While summer might seem ideal for outdoor works, the high visitor numbers during warmer months would have made construction challenging. By scheduling the refurbishment in autumn, we’ve minimised disruption, though we do acknowledge that wet weather may affect progress, particularly with surfacing.
We understand the closure may be inconvenient, especially during the school holidays, and we sincerely apologise for the disruption. However, we’re confident that the results will be well worth the wait, offering a safer, more engaging and inclusive space for everyone to enjoy.
If the contractors complete the work ahead of schedule, we’ll reopen the play area earlier than planned.
In the meantime, we encourage you to visit nearby alternatives:
- Oatlands recreation ground
- Brooklands community park
Thank you for your patience and support. We’ll continue to share updates on our social media channels, and we look forward to welcoming you back to a refreshed and enhanced Churchfields play area very soon.
