Get ready for an exciting spring season of the Royston Pike lectures at Riverhouse Barn Arts Centre, Walton starting on 12 February. Dive into fascinating topics like Regency fashion, culinary journeys along the Thames, and the natural wonders of Elmbridge.
What's on the Programme:
- Wednesday, 12 February: "Regency Dress" by Grace Evans. Explore the captivating world of Regency fashion with Grace. This talk will feature photos of rare garments from the Olive Matthews Collection on show at Chertsey Museum until 30 August 2025. The collection incorporates a very fine and rare group of garments from the early part of the 19th century. Discover the stories behind these historical pieces and the era they represent.
- Thursday, 13 March: "Riverfed: A Culinary Journey down the Thames" by Di Murrell. Join Di on a culinary adventure along the Thames, sharing tales from her book and experiences on Britain's waterways. Learn about the fascinating history of food transport and trade on the canal, involving produce coming as far away as Ghana and Alberta, Canada.
- Wednesday, 9 April: "Natural History of Elmbridge" by Dave Page. Discover the rich natural habitats of Elmbridge with Dave. Learn about the conservation efforts to manage our local heathland, woodland and grassland areas. Find out about the rare or endangered species that make them so special such as the Starfruit, Silver-studded Blue butterfly, and Dartford Warbler.
