Downside Village Conservation Area was designated in 1979 and extended in 2014. Downside is an attractive village, centred upon a large rough triangular common and surrounded mainly by groups of 19th century cottages. The whole village is set against a pleasant well-wooded rural landscape, much of which is owned and managed by the Cobham Park Estate, and is located entirely within the Green Belt.
Conservation Area Character Appraisal and Management Plan
The Council has published a Character Appraisal and Management Plan document for the conservation area. This document, which was endorsed by Planning Committee in March 2014, was produced through collaborative working between the local community, consultants and the Council.
Advisory committee
There is an active Conservation Area Advisory Committee for Downside Village.
