We remove dead animals including foxes, badgers, deer, cats and dogs from:
- public roads and pavements in Elmbridge
- council properties
- Elmbridge parks
We do not remove dead animals from private property. This is the responsibility of the property owner.
After you report a dead animal it will be removed by the next working day. Once removed, dead animal carcasses are disposed of as quickly as possible for health and hygiene reasons.
Dead animals on private property
We do not remove dead animals from private property. This is the responsibility of the property owner. For small animals like squirrels, rats, mice and birds, you can double bag them (carrier or black bin bag) and place them in your regular refuse waste bin. For larger animals, such as foxes, they should be double bagged and taken to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre (tip). Remember, do not handle any dead animal with bare hands so you don’t put your own health at risk.
Dead wild birds on private property
Dead wild birds in small quantities, can be buried in your garden or double bagged and either put in your refuse bin or taken to a Household Waste Recycling Centre (tip). Larger quantities of dead birds need to be reported, so that avian flu can be monitored in the wild bird population. Further information is available on GOV.UK: disposing of dead garden birds.
Pets
We do not provide a service to remove dead pets from your home or property. You will need to contact a local veterinary surgery or private contractor for advice.
