Tackling litter in parks and open spaces
We have installed dual use waste bins (for general litter and dog litter) in parks and open spaces across the borough. These new bins have a unique identifier number and QR code making it easier report a green spaces bin with a QR code.
We have kept a small number of ‘litter only’ bins in locations near private residences.
We continue to issue messages - via our social media channels, newsletters, site notices and posters - to take litter home when bins are full and remind visitors to look after their green spaces, protect wildlife and respect local communities.
We are encouraging people who are having a gathering in parks to plan ahead and take their rubbish home.
We are reminding visitors that leaving bags on the ground by bins is illegal fly-tipping. Enforcement Officers can issue £200 Fixed Penalty Notices for fly-tipping under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
