As part of the current Elmbridge Physical Activity Strategy 2021-2031, we are committed to encouraging people to stay active and healthy.
This includes developing a strong community tennis programme in Elmbridge where everyone; children, families and people of all ages can enjoy the game.
We want to make tennis fun and accessible for all and increase participation with low-cost memberships, refurbished and sustainable facilities and inclusive community tennis programmes:
Low-cost membership
Already almost 2,500 residents are making the most of their £36 annual membership at the 12 Parks Tennis locations across the borough. The pass can include up to 5 household members to play for up to 2 hours per day at no extra charge. Alternatively, there is a pay and play option for £5 per hour.
Free tennis for those on low-income and benefits
So far, 55 members have signed up to the free play tennis scheme. We would like to see more joining in. To access your pass, email us at parkstennis@elmbridge.gov.uk
Refurbished facilities to improve playing conditions
We started our 3-year court refurbishment programme in 2021 to give Parks Tennis members the opportunity to play in the best conditions at great facilities that remain sustainable for the future. Here is an update on on-going works:
- 2021: Refurbishment completed at Giggs Hill Field (Thames Ditton), Molesey Hurst and Cobham courts.
- 2022: Civic Centre courts have just been resurfaced and re-fenced. Starting this week: Long Ditton and Oatlands
- 2023: Grovelands, Cricket Way, Coronation & Churchfields recreation grounds.
Affordable community tennis programmes
As well as upgrading facilities, we are partnering with the LTA to offer affordable, community tennis courses for adults and children – whatever their level - at most of our parks tennis locations. Find out more about coaching.
